Breakfast at the hotel in Memphis.
キング牧師が亡くなった場所。すごい雷雨だった。
I got heavy thunderstorm when I was visiting where Martin Luther King, Jr. died.
いかにもアメ車って感じのクルマをレンタルした。シートの座り心地は悪くないのだけど、運転には不向き。でっかいトランクを開けると、中にだーっと雨水が入ってきてしまうし、何も考えないで造ってるんだな、って感じた。燃費も悪いし…。というわけで、このあと他のクルマと入れ替えてもらった。
I rent a typical American car. But it was not very good so I changed the car to a low-maintenance-car.
12:21c ロングドライブの途中で、お昼ごはん。

途中、竜巻に襲われた集落を通過。この向こうに崩壊した家屋が見えるのだけど、カメラを向けることはできなかった。
I saw a house collapsed with a tornado but I would not look at the house because I am so sorry.
アラバマ州モンロービルに到着。
Arrived in the destination, Monroeville, Alabama.
To Kill a Mockingbird、邦題：アラバマ物語。原作者の出身地であるこの地で、毎年この時期に舞台公演が行われている。前売りは売り切れ、当日券も約束できないということだったけど、せっかく遠くから来たのだから、という心遣いか、チケットを手に入れることができた。僕が送った問い合わせのメールは、役員さん全員に転送されていたのだ。
Hopefully I got a ticket even it was sold out. Guys who worked on the play had expected that I would visit there with transferred email I sent.
本物のレモネード！
屋外のセットだったとは予想外。運良く青空で良かったけど、天気が悪かったらどうするんだろう。
Awesome play in sunshine what I did not expect. How did it work if it rained?
さらに予想外。裁判のシーンは別会場ということで、みなさん一斉に移動。

何と、本物の裁判所。つまり、原作の舞台、そのまま使うってこと。しかも役員さんに特等席へ案内してもらいました！
It’s the court isn’t it? So the play was performed at the genuine court. And I was shown into the best seat by Stephanie!
もう21世紀なんだし、頼むよ評議員さん！て祈りながら見てたけど、原作どおりの結末。途中、お客さんが爆笑するユーモアにはついていけず、残念。
I could not catch some humors even audiences laugh… Actually I expected the judgment would be different from the original as a new era.

20:54c 舞台の役員さんに、何か名物料理をと訪ねたところ、迷わずナマズとのこと。しかし、この町のグリルは日曜日に営業しておらず、やむなくファストフードのナマズ。ビールが欲しいところだが、日曜にはお酒を売れないという法律なんだそう。
I asked a guy for good local food but the grill where serves good cat fish closed on Sundays so I went to a fast food restaurant. No beer is available due to a law…
ガンボという料理も気になってたので、食べ過ぎとは思いつつ、サイドに。これは日本人にも合う。
Gumbo. This would be popular with Japanese, I think.
コンビニに立ち寄った。前日の酒飲み天国から一転、ここではビールが買えない。
No beer available. A fridge at a shop had been locked!
仕方がないので、アイスにした。
So I had an ice candy instead.
